Happy Monday and happy day 4 of the #TBPChallenge. Today’s topic is near and dear to my heart- BRANDING! With a 5 year-old food blog, I’ve gone through many rebrands (good and bad) and learned a lot along the way!
Confession- I used to be a serial re-brander. We’re talking every six months…new logo, color scheme, the whole shebang. The only thing that would stay consistent is my brand voice. Imaginee this- what if Target decided to launch a brand new logo and brand voice every single year? The bullseye would have no brand recognition, the color red would mean nothing, and their target consumer would be constantly changing. NO BUENO.
When it comes to branding your blog and business, both aesthetics and brand voice matter. Actually, a lot matters. What is the first thing someone sees when they come to your website? Your logo and web design. What convinces them to come back? The content you develop and what you have to say. Your photography style matters. The fonts you use matter. The layout and usability of your site matters. Your writing matters. Your opinion matters. All of that stuff- is part of your branding!
Day 4 – Brand Challenge
Today’s challenge is all about figuring out who your brand is. How do you want to be perceived when someone first comes to your site? What 3 words would you use to describe your brand personality? What is your mission statement and how do you make that apparent via your brand voice and imagery? What colors and fonts do/will you use to brand your photos and images with?
Don’t rush through this. Know that blogs/brands evolve over time and if down the line your brand voice or design needs tweaking, that it’s okay to do so! Davida and I both love Pinterest when it comes to organizing inspiration. We suggest creating a private board that you update often.
